Are your beliefs keeping you from performing at your peak?
I love it when dancers and performers ‘get it’…
When the light bulb goes on and they start to realise how much their mindset impacts their performance. This is where the magic happens and performance breakthroughs appear! #mindsetiseverything
That’s why I was thrilled when I caught wind of this super-cool video (see below) that a student of mine made, showing her own process of learning how “your mind can dictate the direction your movement will follow”.
“Having danced for 11 years, I am accustomed to having many positive and negative experiences in the studio and on stage… Focusing on negative thoughts distracts you from having complete positive control over your body, resulting in a poor performance.”
When you draw inaccurate conclusions about who you are and what you are capable of doing, you limit your potential.” ~ Maeve, Yr 9
I wish I had grasped that when I was in Year 9!
When you draw inaccurate conclusions about who you are and what you are capable of doing, you limit your potential.
And yet how many inaccurate conclusions do we – so quickly – draw about our ability, without thinking through the effect this kind of thinking could have on our performance?
- not good enough
- not talented enough
- too fat, too ugly
Your thinking has to change and you have to learn how to really believe in yourself if you want to perform at your peak.
A mindset shift has to happen before a performance breakthrough can.
When are you going to have yours?

Thanks Maeve for letting me share your work!
